Executive Coaching — Informed Consent

This page explains what to expect from a coaching relationship with Dr. Michael S. Jones, how it differs from mental health counseling, and the terms of the engagement. Please read it in full, then complete the form at the bottom to confirm you've read it and to share a few details before your first session. Your specific session cadence, term length, and fee are confirmed with you individually by email before we begin, and are restated on the signed copy of your agreement.

What Executive Coaching Is

Executive coaching is a collaborative, forward-looking partnership focused on your leadership, decision-making, communication, and the operational and relational demands of your role. Sessions are structured around the goals you bring to them. Dr. Jones brings twenty years of clinical and organizational experience to this work, along with direct candor and genuine care for how you are leading and how you are doing.

Executive Coaching Is Not Counseling or Psychotherapy

Dr. Jones holds an active counseling license (LPC-S, Arkansas), and that training shapes how he listens and what he notices. This coaching relationship is not counseling, psychotherapy, or any other form of mental health treatment. He is not acting as your therapist or as a treating clinician of any kind while you work together. Specifically: he will not diagnose any condition or create a treatment plan. Your sessions are not part of a medical or mental health record, and nothing you discuss is protected by therapist-client privilege or governed by HIPAA. If it becomes clear during your work together that you would be better served by a licensed mental health provider, he will say so directly and help you find a referral; coaching pauses while that need is addressed, since it is not a substitute for treatment. This agreement, and the coaching relationship it describes, is separate from any continuing education, training, or clinical services offered elsewhere under Renewed Vision Counseling Services.

Confidentiality

What you share in your sessions stays between you and Dr. Jones, with the following limits, which are standard practice and exist for your protection and his: if he believes you are at imminent risk of harming yourself or someone else, he will act to keep you or others safe, which may include contacting emergency services; if he becomes aware of the abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult, he is obligated to report it, the same as any licensed professional would be; if a court orders disclosure, he will comply with the law. Outside of those limits, he will not share what you discuss with your employer or anyone else without your written permission.

Fees, Cadence, and Term

Your session cadence, one-hour session length, six-month or other agreed term, and hourly fee are confirmed with you individually before your first session and are stated in the written agreement you sign. Invoices are sent at the start of each month for that month's scheduled sessions, with payment due within 15 days.

Cancellations and Rescheduling

Please give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to reschedule a session. Sessions canceled with less notice, and sessions missed without notice, are still billed, since the time was reserved for you.

Between Sessions

Dr. Jones is glad to hear from you by email between sessions, for scheduling or a quick thought you want to flag for your next conversation. Email is not a crisis resource, and he is not available around the clock. If you are in crisis, please contact 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), local emergency services, or another appropriate resource in the moment.

Ending the Engagement

Either party may end the coaching relationship at any time, for any reason, with notice. Dr. Jones asks for at least two weeks' notice where possible, so the work can close with some intention. You remain responsible for payment for any sessions already held.

No Guarantee of Outcomes

Coaching is a partnership, and the work depends on both participants. Dr. Jones brings his full attention, experience, and honesty to every session. He cannot promise particular outcomes, and nothing here should be read as a guarantee of any specific result.
